John Guzzo founded the company in 1928 under the name General Construction. He was joined shortly after by his brother Gildo and his son Lino. The company started out as a very small outfit that specialized in sewer and sidewalk construction projects. During the Great Depression years the company kept busy doing WPA projects. The company progressively grew and expanded business during the post World War II housing boom in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s. In 1948 the company incorporated under the name Complete General Construction Co., Inc.
From there Complete General moved into its present day specialty of highway construction. The company was heavily involved in the major Ohio interstate construction of the late 1950’s, the 1960’s and the 1970’s. One of Complete General’s first interstate construction projects was I-71 in 1958 and 1959. Through the years Complete General has built major sections of SR-315, I-670 and I-270. Most recently Complete General built Ohio’s first smart lane on I-670. The company has been continually growing its revenues and lines of business. Complete General now includes bridge construction/repair, paving, site preparation, highway & underground electric, street lighting and signal layout, airport taxiway construction and custom crushing/recycling to its staples of highway and sewer work.
During its 92 plus years in business Complete General has always been a family owned and operated business. Lee Guzzo, the current Chairman, is a third generation employee. Peter Guzzo, President, is fourth generation. The company has now moved into its fifth generation of the Guzzo family and it is not uncommon to find second and even third generation laborers, operators or truck drivers. Complete General prides itself in its workforce and likes to consider all its employees as family.
