John Guzzo founded the company in 1928 under the name General Construction. He was joined shortly after by his brother Gildo and his son Lino. The company started out as a very small outfit that specialized in sewer and sidewalk construction projects. During the Great Depression years the company kept busy doing Works Progress Administration projects. The company progressively grew and expanded business during the post World War II housing boom in the late 1940's and early 1950's. General Construction excavated hundreds of basements, poured concrete sidewalks, paved streets and continued on with its sewer projects. In 1948 the company incorporated under the name Complete General Construction Co., Inc. From there Complete General moved into its
present day specialty of highway construction. The company was heavily
involved in the major Interstate construction of the late 1950's, the 1960's
and the 1970's in During its 78 years in business, Complete General has always been a family owned and operated business. Lee Guzzo, the current CEO, is a third generation employee. The company has now moved into its fourth generation of Guzzos and it is not uncommon to find second and even third generation laborers, operators or truck drivers. Complete General prides itself in its workforce and likes to consider all its employees as family.
